Liberty County AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Hoke County AJROTC
Liberty County AJROTC edged out Hoke County AJROTC 1005.4 to 1005.2 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Liberty County AJROTC was led by Cierra Morales who shot a 258.1. The remaining contributing members were Emily Goff, Sydney Goff, and Jessie Brown. They are from Bristol, FL, and are coached by Jason Dence.
Liberty County AJROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in twenty-third place. Within the Army Jrotc Conference they are in ninth place. They have a 1 - 4 record.
Hoke County AJROTC was led by Xavier Scott who shot a 261.3. The remaining contributing members were Savanna Boettge, De'Angelo Servant, and Calina Calbreath. Hoke County AJROTC is from Raeford, NC, and is coached by Harold Thacker.
Hoke County AJROTC is also competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in twenty-second place. Within the Army Jrotc Conference they are in eighth place. They have a 3 - 2 record.
Next up Liberty County AJROTC will compete against Manatee AJROTC from Bradenton, FL. Manatee AJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record. While Hoke County AJROTC will compete against Milton NJROTC from Milton, FL. Milton NJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
