Henry J Kaiser AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Mattoon AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Henry J Kaiser AJROTC edged out Mattoon AJROTC 1007.3 to 1001.9 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. Henry J Kaiser AJROTC was led by Amber Ibarra Gomez who shot a 265.7. The remaining contributing members were Rudy Fuentes Castron, Marco Dominguez, and Ashley Santiago. They are from Fontana, CA, and are coached by Michael Burk.
Henry J Kaiser AJROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in thirty-fifth place. They finished the regular season with a 3 - 4 record.
The cut scores for next season are still unofficial, however thanks to their performance this season Henry J Kaiser AJROTC likely qualifies for the Distinguished Division in the 2023 National Air Rifle League Season.
Mattoon AJROTC was led by Larissa Kelly who shot a 272.7. The remaining contributing members were Alexander Whitaker, Shelby Pickering, and Jeffrey Thomas. Mattoon AJROTC is from Mattoon, IL, and is coached by Todd Stokes.
Mattoon AJROTC is also competing in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in thirty-sixth place. They finished the regular season with a 3 - 4 record.

Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
