Saint Thomas Academy Narrowly Defeats Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club
Shooting their highest score of the season Saint Thomas Academy edged out Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club 1099.3 to 1086.2 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. Saint Thomas Academy was led by Eric Zauha who shot a 284.6. The remaining contributing members were Ty Thunstrom, Daniel Podolyan, and Will Buchelle. They are from Mendota Heights, MN, and are coached by Paul Preblich.
Saint Thomas Academy is competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in eighth place. Within the Junior Rifle Club Conference they are in first place. They have a 3 - 0 record.
Snapping a two game win streak Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club was led by Grace Richter who shot a 281.4. The remaining contributing members were Samantha Seagle, Noble Richter, and Noah Richter. Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club is from Manassas, VA, and is coached by Alan Lerch.
Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club is also competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in eleventh place. Within the Junior Rifle Club Conference they are in second place. They have a 2 - 1 record.
This coming week Saint Thomas Academy has a bye week. While Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club will compete against Webb City AJROTC from Webb City, MO. Webb City AJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
