Washburn Rural AFJROTC defeats Ansbach AJROTC
Washburn Rural AFJROTC defeated Ansbach AJROTC 961.3 to 785.4 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Washburn Rural AFJROTC was led by Thomas Diaz who shot a 263.8. The remaining contributing members were Ayla Fields, Alex Jackson, and Mason Padgett. They are from Topeka, KS, and are coached by Lt Col Ron Daniels.
Washburn Rural AFJROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in thirty-second place. Within the Air Force Jrotc Conference they finish in third place. They finished the regular season with a 3 - 3 record.
The cut scores for next season are still unofficial, however thanks to their performance this season Washburn Rural AFJROTC likely qualifies for the Distinguished Division in the 2023 National Air Rifle League Season.
Ansbach AJROTC was led by Sydney Mendoza who shot a 226.7. The remaining contributing members were Richard Telesco, Ethan Serna, and Ryan Rivera-Mojica. Ansbach AJROTC is from Ansbach, Germany, and is coached by Christopher Buchanan.
Ansbach AJROTC is also competing in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in forty-fourth place. They finished the regular season with a 1 - 6 record.

Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
