West AJROTC defeats Decatur AJROTC
West AJROTC defeated Decatur AJROTC 1008.9 to 960.1 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. West AJROTC was led by Anais Aguirre who shot a 273.1. The remaining contributing members were Sonika Taing, Alexandro Palma, and Catilyn Parker. They are from Denver, CO, and are coached by Jeffrey F Wilson.
West AJROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in thirty-fourth place. They finished the regular season with a 5 - 2 record.
The cut scores for next season are still unofficial, however thanks to their performance this season West AJROTC likely qualifies for the Distinguished Division in the 2023 National Air Rifle League Season.
Decatur AJROTC was led by Isreal Hernandez who shot a 245.1. The remaining contributing members were Yamilet Ortiz, Darien Harris, and Madison Farris . Decatur AJROTC is from Decatur, AL, and is coached by LTC Michael Snyder.
Decatur AJROTC is also competing in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in forty-third place. They finished the regular season with a 1 - 5 record.

Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
