South Effingham NJROTC defeats James River NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season South Effingham NJROTC defeated James River NJROTC 1129.8 to 1069.1 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. South Effingham NJROTC was led by Ryton Ekern who shot a 290.4. The remaining contributing members were Asa Alderman, Alexandra Littlejohn, and Hailey Coffee. They are from Guyton, GA, and are coached by Terry Stautberg.
South Effingham NJROTC is competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in fourteenth place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they are in fourth place. They have a 3 - 2 record.
Shooting their highest team score of the season James River NJROTC was led by Morgan Raymondson who shot a 283.9. The remaining contributing members were Berend Vandermeer, Jeremy Tuck, and Grant Stankiewicz. James River NJROTC is from Midlothian, VA, and is coached by PSCM Steve Prince.
James River NJROTC is also competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in twentieth place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they are in seventh place. They have a 2 - 4 record.
Next up South Effingham NJROTC will compete against Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club from Manassas, VA. Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club currently has a 3 - 2 record. While James River NJROTC will compete against Lafayette Gun Club from Yorktown, VA. Lafayette Gun Club currently has a 2 - 3 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
