South Effingham NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Pace NJROTC
South Effingham NJROTC edged out Pace NJROTC 1062.4 to 1052.2 last week in the National Air Rifle League. South Effingham NJROTC was led by Asa Alderman who shot a 275.0. The remaining contributing members were Alexandra Littlejohn, Cameron Bedford, and Andrew Haldenwang. They are from Guyton, GA, and are coached by Terry Stautberg.
South Effingham NJROTC is competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in seventeenth place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they are in sixth place. They have a 1 - 2 record.
Snapping a thre game win streak Pace NJROTC was led by Amaya Shirley who shot a 264.8. The remaining contributing members were Gabriella Pickard, Nathan Ramos, and Hannah Olafsen. Pace NJROTC is from Pace, FL, and is coached by John Baker.
Pace NJROTC is also competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in fourteenth place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they are in fourth place. They have a 3 - 1 record.
Next up South Effingham NJROTC will compete against Norview NJROTC from Norfolk, VA. Norview NJROTC currently has a 1 - 2 record. While Pace NJROTC will compete against Pascagoula NJROTC from Pascagoula, MS. Pascagoula NJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
