West Broward AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Fort Payne AJROTC
West Broward AJROTC edged out Fort Payne AJROTC 1020.3 to 1017.5 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. West Broward AJROTC was led by Isabel White who shot a 275.4. The remaining contributing members were Brenna Humphries, Alejandra Lasso, and Kenneth Valladares. They are from Pembroke Pines, FL, and are coached by Kenneth Merkel.
West Broward AJROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in twenty-first place. Within the Army Jrotc Conference they finish in eighth place. They finished the regular season with a 4 - 3 record.
The cut scores for next season are still unofficial, however thanks to their performance this season West Broward AJROTC likely qualifies for the Distinguished Division in the 2023 National Air Rifle League Season.
Snapping a two game win streak Fort Payne AJROTC was led by Mary Cifuentes who shot a 265.1. The remaining contributing members were Barrett Bible, Thomas Tallent, and Carmella Cisneros. Fort Payne AJROTC is from Fort Payne, AL, and is coached by John Walker.
Fort Payne AJROTC is also competing in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in eighteenth place. Within the Army Jrotc Conference they finish in fifth place. They finished the regular season with a 3 - 4 record.

Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
