Bradley Central AJROTC Narrowly Defeats South Panola AFJROTC
Bradley Central AJROTC edged out South Panola AFJROTC 1110.5 to 1098.3 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. Bradley Central AJROTC was led by Calwyn Watson who shot a 290.6. The remaining contributing members were Susie Asble, Pyper Reynolds, and Jason Sealy. They are from Cleveland, TN, and are coached by Chris Ingle.
Bradley Central AJROTC is competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in fourth place. Within the Army Jrotc Conference they are in second place. They have a 4 - 0 record.
Snapping a two game win streak South Panola AFJROTC was led by Sarena Hickingbottom who shot a 287.8. The remaining contributing members were Masimo Aguilar, Cameren Becerra, and Rnyne Self. South Panola AFJROTC is from Batesville, MS, and is coached by Col Robert Mims.
South Panola AFJROTC is also competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in eleventh place. They have a 3 - 1 record.
Next up Bradley Central AJROTC will compete against North Brunswick AJROTC from Leland, NC. North Brunswick AJROTC currently has a 4 - 0 record. While South Panola AFJROTC will compete against Union Pines NJROTC from Cameron, NC. Union Pines NJROTC currently has a 4 - 0 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
