South Effingham NJROTC Defeats on a Tie Breaker Norview NJROTC
South Effingham NJROTC edged out Norview NJROTC last week in the National Air Rifle League. Both teams scored 0 points. By rule, the tie was settled by highest number of "inner tens." South Effingham NJROTC won the tie 22 to 21. Their second win in a row. South Effingham NJROTC was led by Ryton Ekern who shot a 292.3. The remaining contributing members were Alexandra Littlejohn, Cameron Bedford, and Vincent Amster. They are from Guyton, GA, and are coached by Terry Stautberg.
South Effingham NJROTC is competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in fifteenth place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they are in fifth place. They have a 2 - 2 record.
Norview NJROTC was led by Andreyona Smith who shot a 279.2. The remaining contributing members were Preston Everette, Quamir Barham, and Julia Yamomo. Norview NJROTC is from Norfolk, VA, and is coached by LCDR Stuart Littlejohn.
Norview NJROTC is also competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in sixteenth place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they are in sixth place. They have a 1 - 3 record.
Next up South Effingham NJROTC will compete against James River NJROTC from Midlothian, VA. James River NJROTC currently has a 2 - 3 record. While Norview NJROTC will compete against Saint Thomas Academy from Mendota Heights, MN. Saint Thomas Academy currently has a 3 - 1 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
