Haughton AFJROTC Narrowly Defeats Pueblo West AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Haughton AFJROTC edged out Pueblo West AJROTC 1079.1 to 1077.5 in the 2023 National Sporter Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. Haughton AFJROTC was led by Katelyn Lewis who shot a 285.3. The remaining contributing members were Layla Briggs, Leland Merritt, and Erin Rigsby. They are from Haughton, LA, and are coached by Tony Zucco.
Haughton AFJROTC competed in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in tenth place. Within the Air Force Jrotc Conference they finish in second place with a 5 - 1 record.
Next up, Haughton AFJROTC will complete in the postseason Elite Division AFJROTC Championship Game. They will face Ronald Reagan AFJROTC.
Thanks to their performance this season Haughton AFJROTC preliminarily qualifies for the Distinguished Division in the 2024 National Air Rifle League.

Pueblo West AJROTC also competed in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in eleventh place. They finished the regular season with a 4 - 3 record.
Thanks to their performance this season Pueblo West AJROTC preliminarily qualifies for the Distinguished Division in the 2024 National Air Rifle League.

The league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, kneeling, prone, and standing. Scored in decimal, each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
