Mountain View MCJROTC defeats Waimea AJROTC
Mountain View MCJROTC defeated Waimea AJROTC 1095.8 to 1073.2 in the 2023 National Sporter Air Rifle League. Mountain View MCJROTC was led by Elizabeth Gunn who shot a 288.9. The remaining contributing members were Sameer Singh, Charles Wallace, and Caeleigh Brown. They are from Stafford, VA, and are coached by SgtMaj Allen Tanner.
Mountain View MCJROTC competed in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in first place. Within the Marine Corps Jrotc Conference they finish in first place. They finished the regular season with a 5 - 2 record.
Next up, Mountain View MCJROTC will compete in the Sporter Distinguished Conference Tournament Marine Corps match as the first seed. They will compete against second seed Selma MCJROTC.
Thanks to their performance this season Mountain View MCJROTC preliminarily qualifies for the Champions Division in the 2024 National Air Rifle League Season. To complete their qualification, they must still shoot a minimum qualifying score, set for next season at 1035 (integer score for a 3x10), in a sanctioned competition within the next 10 months.

Waimea AJROTC also competed in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in fifth place. They finished the regular season with a 4 - 2 record.

The league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, kneeling, prone, and standing. Scored in decimal, each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
