Zion Benton NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Pascagoula NJROTC
Zion Benton NJROTC (7 - 0) finished their regular season schedule this past week with a win over Pascagoula NJROTC (5 - 1). The win tops off a perfect season for them, their fourth in the National Air Rifle League. They previously went undefeated in 2015, 2016, and 2017. This win also guarantees them their eighth consecutive Navy JROTC Champions Division title, in fact, they are the only school to have won this title, winning it in all eight seasons of the league.
Zion Benton NJROTC was led by Gianna Gomez who shot a 285.2. The remaining contributing members were Kalinn White, Santiago Camacho, and Miah Leong. They are from Zion, IL, and are coached by Dan Hackstein.
Snapping a five game win streak Pascagoula NJROTC was led by Dayanara Alvarado Lopez who shot a 291.2. The remaining contributing members were Tyresse Vargas, Kenairis Villanueva, and Alissandra Castro. Pascagoula NJROTC is from Pascagoula, MS, and is coached by Greg Goley.
Pascagoula NJROTC is also competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in fifth place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they are in second place. They have a 5 - 1 record.
Zion Benton NJROTC has a bye week this coming week, but will return for the postseason, likely seeded 1 or 2 going into the Championship Tournament. Final seedings will be announced next week.
While Pascagoula NJROTC will compete in their final regular season game this week against C. T. Johnson AJROTC from San Antonio, TX. C. T. Johnson AJROTC currently has a 2 - 3 record.

The league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, kneeling, prone, and standing. Scored in decimal, each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
