Pueblo West AJROTC defeats Lumen Christi High School
Shooting their highest score of the season Pueblo West AJROTC defeated Lumen Christi High School 1005.4 to 918.4 last week in the National Air Rifle League. They currently have a 2 - 2 record. Pueblo West AJROTC was led by, Keziah Estabrook who shot a 258.6. The remaining contributing members were Barracuda Falls, Tyana Sanchez, and Jackson Dahlke. Pueblo West AJROTC is from Pueblo West, CO, and is coached by Matthew Dilcher.
Lumen Christi High School currently has a 2 - 1 record. After the loss they are in sixth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Lumen Christi High School was led by, Francesca Locke who shot a 251.4. The remaining contributing members were Brooke Ahrenholz, Liv Crosby, and Dominic Alfano. Lumen Christi High School is from Anchorage, AK, and is coached by Brian A Ross.
Next up Pueblo West AJROTC will compete against Skyline AJROTC from Dallas. Skyline AJROTC currently has a 3 - 2 record. While Lumen Christi High School will compete against Montgomery County 4-H Shooting Sports from Houston, TX. Montgomery County 4-H Shooting Sports currently has a 3 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
