W. H. Page NJROTC defeats Grossmont NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season W. H. Page NJROTC defeated Grossmont NJROTC 1054.1 to 972.1 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. With the win, W. H. Page NJROTC is in third place overall and first place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 3 - 0 record. W. H. Page NJROTC was led by, Emilyrose Sheffield who shot a 276.9. The remaining contributing members were Jeffrey Strader, Nicholas Waegerle, and Emma Senneville. W. H. Page NJROTC is from Greensboro, NC, and is coached by David Buchholz.
Snapping a two game win streak Grossmont NJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record. After the loss they are in seventeenth place overall and fourth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Grossmont NJROTC was led by, Zita Huang who shot a 263.9. The remaining contributing members were Ailed Sempolt, Malia Lebhar, and Damion Hernandez. Grossmont NJROTC is from El Cajon, CA, and is coached by Max Velasquez.
This coming week W. H. Page NJROTC has a bye week. While Grossmont NJROTC will compete against Brooke Point NJROTC from Stafford. Brooke Point NJROTC currently has a 1 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
