Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i defeats Union Pines NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i defeated Union Pines NJROTC 1122.9 to 983.7 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fourth win in a row. With the win, Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i is in first place overall and first place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They currently have a 4 - 0 record. Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i was led by, Briani Iyo who shot a 283.3. The remaining contributing members were Kylie Iwamoto, Colby Terlep, and Calleigh-Rose Lee. Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i is from Keaau, HI, and is coached by Kelly Galdones.
Snapping a four game win streak Union Pines NJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record. After the loss they are in twelfth place overall and second place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Union Pines NJROTC was led by, Conner Brady who shot a 256.6. The remaining contributing members were Nathan Auman, Braeden Conn, and Zach Viburs. Union Pines NJROTC is from Cameron, and is coached by Keith Dangerfield.
Next up Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i will compete against Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club from Nokesville, VA. Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club currently has a 4 - 1 record. While Union Pines NJROTC will compete against W. H. Page NJROTC from Greensboro, NC. W. H. Page NJROTC currently has a 3 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
