Bears Ears Sportsman Club defeats Carroll County 4-H

Bears Ears Sportsman Club defeated Carroll County 4-H 1112 to 733 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row, Bears Ears Sportsman Club is in fourth place in their Division with a 2 - 2 record. Bears Ears Sportsman Club was led by Angela Hill who shot a 355. The remaining contributing members were Joey Gates, Taylor Kirby, and Arianna Anderson. Bears Ears Sportsman Club is from Craig, CO, and is coached by Amanda Ott.

Carroll County 4-H dropped to 0 - 5 on the season. They are currently in fifth place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season Carroll County 4-H was led by Deana Bailey who shot a 368, while teammate Sierra Brooks shot a 365. Carroll County 4-H is from Carrollton, GA, and is coached by Joel Grubbs.

Next up Bears Ears Sportsman Club will compete against Clallam County 4-H from Carlsborg, WA. Clallam County 4-H currently has a 2 - 1 record. Carroll County 4-H will compete against North Gwinnett High School from Sugar Hill, GA. North Gwinnett High School currently has a 3 - 1 record.

These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Precision Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
