Onate NJROTC defeats Eldorado NJROTC
Onate NJROTC defeated Eldorado NJROTC 1018 to 991 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. Onate NJROTC finishes the regular season in fourth place overall and first place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 6 - 1 record. Onate NJROTC was led by, Dacota Cribley who shot a 270. The remaining contributing members were Alyssa Epperson, Mckenna Saragosa, and Jayde Dean. Onate NJROTC is from Las Cruces, NM, and is coached by Robert Rodriguez.
Snapping a two game win streak Eldorado NJROTC finished the season with a 5 - 2 record. They finishes the season in thirteenth place overall and fourth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Eldorado NJROTC was led by, Megan Spangler who shot a 253. The remaining contributing members were Daniel Ruiz, Teresa Pineda, and Alain Zelim-Vega. Eldorado NJROTC is from Las Vegas, NV, and is coached by Major Todd Hook.
Onate NJROTC will advance to the Navy JROTC Conference Title Game. They will compete against Mauldin NJROTC for the title. The game begins December 2nd.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
