Union Pines NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Myrtle Beach NJROTC
Union Pines NJROTC edged out Myrtle Beach NJROTC 983 to 974 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Union Pines NJROTC is in fifteenth place overall and fifth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 3 - 2 record. Union Pines NJROTC was led by, Shaun Garza who shot a 254. The remaining contributing members were Jaida Holder, Shelby Motta, and Will Baddour. Union Pines NJROTC is from Whispering Pines, NC, and is coached by Keith Dangerfield.
Myrtle Beach NJROTC currently has a 2 - 3 record. After the loss they are in twenty-first place overall and seventh place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Myrtle Beach NJROTC was led by, Marvin Cerrato who shot a 258. The remaining contributing members were Jonathan Flores, Mitzy Gonzalez, and Deyby Garcia. Myrtle Beach NJROTC is from Pawleys Island, SC, and is coached by CDR David Kaiser.
Next up Union Pines NJROTC will compete against Eldorado NJROTC from Las Vegas, NV. Eldorado NJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record. While Myrtle Beach NJROTC will compete against Sparkman AJROTC from Harvest, AL. Sparkman AJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
