Warren Central MCJROTC Narrowly Defeats Onate NJROTC
Warren Central MCJROTC edged out Onate NJROTC 1005 to 997 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Warren Central MCJROTC is in ninth place overall and second place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 4 - 1 record. Warren Central MCJROTC was led by, Cooper Williams who shot a 262. The remaining contributing members were Aberim Gamble, Malachi Line, and Alexander Lodgsden. Warren Central MCJROTC is from Indianapolis, IN, and is coached by Juan Anorga.
Onate NJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record. After the loss they are in tenth place overall and third place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Onate NJROTC was led by, Dacota Cribley who shot a 256. The remaining contributing members were Alyssa Epperson, Janessa Romero, and Jayde Dean. Onate NJROTC is from Las Cruces, NM, and is coached by Robert Rodriguez.
Next up Warren Central MCJROTC will compete against New Caney AJROTC from New Caney, TX. New Caney AJROTC currently has a 2 - 3 record. While Onate NJROTC will compete against Mauldin NJROTC from Mauldin, SC. Mauldin NJROTC currently has a 3 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
