Onate NJROTC defeats Gallatin NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Onate NJROTC defeated Gallatin NJROTC 1016 to 969 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. With the win, Onate NJROTC is in twelfth place overall and third place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 3 - 0 record. Onate NJROTC was led by, Dacotah Cribley who shot a 271. The remaining contributing members were Alyssa Epperson, Daniel Granado, and Mckenna Saragosa. Onate NJROTC is from Las Cruces, NM, and is coached by Robert Rodriguez.
Gallatin NJROTC currently has a 1 - 1 record. After the loss they are in twenty-fifth place overall and sixth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Gallatin NJROTC was led by, Claudia Roberts who shot a 256. The remaining contributing members were William Wright, Elizabeth Myers, and Christian Blizzard. Gallatin NJROTC is from Gallatin, TN, and is coached by Duff Thompson.
This coming week Onate NJROTC has a bye week. While Gallatin NJROTC will compete against Sparkman AJROTC from Harvest, AL. Sparkman AJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
