Eldorado NJROTC defeats Grossmont NJROTC
Eldorado NJROTC defeated Grossmont NJROTC 991 to 944 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. With the win, Eldorado NJROTC is in thirteenth place overall and fourth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 3 - 0 record. Eldorado NJROTC was led by, Alain Zelim-Vega who shot a 256. The remaining contributing members were Daniel Ruiz, Francisco Pallanes, and Megan Spangler. Eldorado NJROTC is from Las Vegas, NV, and is coached by Major Todd Hook.
Snapping a two game win streak Grossmont NJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record. After the loss they are in ninth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Grossmont NJROTC was led by, Summer Oraha who shot a 246. The remaining contributing members were Megan Forchette, Simon Castro, and Zita Huang. Grossmont NJROTC is from El Cajon, CA, and is coached by Mark Brosnan.
This coming week Eldorado NJROTC has a bye week. While Grossmont NJROTC will compete against Kelly Walsh MCJROTC from Casper, WY. Kelly Walsh MCJROTC currently has a 1 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
