West Broward AJROTC defeats Clarkrange AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season West Broward AJROTC defeated Clarkrange AJROTC 1044 to 1020 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. With the win, West Broward AJROTC is in first place overall and first place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 3 - 0 record. West Broward AJROTC was led by, Edward Gispert who shot a 268. The remaining contributing members were Andrea Aylwin, Justin Barnes, and Nistula Seshadri. West Broward AJROTC is from Pembroke Pines, FL, and is coached by Kenneth Merkel.
Clarkrange AJROTC currently has a 1 - 1 record. After the loss they are in fifth place overall and second place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. Clarkrange AJROTC was led by, Jasmine Davis who shot a 265. The remaining contributing members were Taylor Ledbetter, Baylee Watson, and Luke Guy. Clarkrange AJROTC is from Clarkrange, TN, and is coached by Steve Dunham.
Next up West Broward AJROTC will compete against Smith Station MCJROTC from Smith Station, AL. Smith Station MCJROTC currently has a 2 - 0 record. While Clarkrange AJROTC will compete against St Pauls AJROTC from St Pauls, NC. St Pauls AJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
