Clark AFJROTC defeats Joliet West AJROTC
Clark AFJROTC defeated Joliet West AJROTC 1004 to 928 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. Clark AFJROTC finishes the regular season in fifteenth place overall and first place within their 'Air Force Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 4 - 3 record. Clark AFJROTC was led by, Alexandra Ruckstuhl who shot a 265. The remaining contributing members were Isaiah Esquivel, Drake Adkins, and Christian Ramirez. Clark AFJROTC is from San Antonio, TX, and is coached by Col Jerry Couvillion.
Clark AFJROTC will advance to the postseason to compete in the Air Force JROTC Conference Title game. They will compete against Earl Warren AFJROTC who has a 4 - 3 record. This game is scheduled for 26 November to 2 December 2018.
Joliet West AJROTC finished the season with a 4 - 3 record. Joliet West AJROTC was led by, Angel Patino who shot a 241. The remaining contributing members were Gabriela Principe, Bethany Flynn, and Samuel Servande. Joliet West AJROTC is from Joliet, IL, and is coached by Benjamin White.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
