Ridge Community AJROTC Narrowly Defeats C. T. Johnson AJROTC
Ridge Community AJROTC edged out C. T. Johnson AJROTC 1024 to 1010 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Ridge Community AJROTC finishes the season in fifth place overall and third place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 6 - 1 record. Ridge Community AJROTC was led by, Alondra Rodriguez who shot a 262. The remaining contributing members were Brandon Rivera, Rudy Locklear, and Hector Maisonet. Ridge Community AJROTC is from Davenport, FL, and is coached by John Durocher.
C. T. Johnson AJROTC finished the season with a 4 - 3 record. They finishes the season in thirteenth place overall and eighth place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. C. T. Johnson AJROTC was led by, Paul Mankewitz who shot a 258. The remaining contributing members were Jacob Saldaña, Emanuel Vazquez, and Ian Zinsmeister. C. T. Johnson AJROTC is from San Antonio, TX, and is coached by MAJ Tom Groggett.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
