Norview NJROTC defeats Palo Verde Valley AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Norview NJROTC defeated Palo Verde Valley AJROTC 1072 to 1011 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. Norview NJROTC finishes the season in first place overall and first place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 7 - 0 record. Norview NJROTC was led by, Ruhan Hameed who shot a 278. The remaining contributing members were Joshua Howe, Dony Gutierrez , and Darlyn Zetino. Norview NJROTC is from Norfolk, VA, and is coached by Grant Lewis.
Norview NJROTC will advance to the postseason to compete in the Navy JROTC Title game. They will compete against McDowell NJROTC who has a 4 - 3 record. This game is scheduled for 26 November to 2 December 2018.
Palo Verde Valley AJROTC finished the season with a 2 - 4 record. They finishes the season in twenty-second place overall. Shooting their highest team score of the season Palo Verde Valley AJROTC was led by, Karime Silva-cid who shot a 274. The remaining contributing members were Jaden King, Jace Hepner, and William Schall. Palo Verde Valley AJROTC is from Blythe, CA, and is coached by Tony Mcbride.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
