North Mesquite AJROTC defeats St Pauls AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season North Mesquite AJROTC defeated St Pauls AJROTC 1053 to 974 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fifth win in a row. With the win, North Mesquite AJROTC is in first place overall and first place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 5 - 0 record. North Mesquite AJROTC was led by Adriana Robles who shot a 268. The remaining contributing members were Nathalie Rios, Matthew Wallace, and Bradley Srader. North Mesquite AJROTC is from Mesquite, TX, and is coached by Eric Schmidt.
St Pauls AJROTC currently has a 3 - 1 record. After the loss they are in twentieth place overall. St Pauls AJROTC was led by Diana DeLeon who shot a 255. The remaining contributing members were Maria DeLeon, Aurora Lopez, and Jennifer Cabrera. St Pauls AJROTC is from St Pauls, NC, and is coached by Stephen Hill.
This coming week North Mesquite AJROTC has a bye week. While St Pauls AJROTC will compete against West Broward AJROTC from Pembroke Pines, FL. West Broward AJROTC currently has a 4 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
