Lake Houston 4-H defeats Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club
Shooting their highest score of the season Lake Houston 4-H defeated Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club 935 to 913 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. With the win, Lake Houston 4-H is in fourth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They currently have a 3 - 0 record. Lake Houston 4-H was led by Kayla Ressler who shot a 252. The remaining contributing members were Carissa Wallace, Alyssa Ward, and Chance Stephens. Lake Houston 4-H is from Kingwood, TX, and is coached by Steven Schammel.
Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club currently has a 0 - 3 record. After the loss they are in eighth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club was led by Emily Macias who shot a 243. The remaining contributing members were Kylar Lee, Laura Sun, and Eleanor Yang. Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club is from San Jose, CA, and is coached by Michael Davis.
Next up Lake Houston 4-H will compete against Binghamton Rifle Club from Binghamton, NY. Binghamton Rifle Club currently has a 2 - 0 record. While Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club will compete against Henry County NJROTC from McDonough, GA. Henry County NJROTC currently has a 1 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
