Auburn AJROTC defeats Manville Sportsman's Rod and Gun Club
Auburn AJROTC defeated Manville Sportsman's Rod and Gun Club 908 to 881 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. They currently have a 2 - 0 record. Auburn AJROTC was led by Lexy Vieau who shot a 239. The remaining contributing members were Lael Verace, Ian Salinas , and Ian Schilling. Auburn AJROTC is from Poplar Grove, IL, and is coached by Christopher McMullen.
Manville Sportsman's Rod and Gun Club currently has a 0 - 2 record. After the loss they are in eighth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Manville Sportsman's Rod and Gun Club was led by Christina Correia who shot a 259. The remaining contributing members were David Yabut, Alex Carreiro, and Marrissa Brown. Manville Sportsman's Rod and Gun Club is from Cranston, RI, and is coached by Michael Dennen.
This coming week Auburn AJROTC has a bye week. While Manville Sportsman's Rod and Gun Club will compete against Shoals American Legion from Shoals, IN. Shoals American Legion currently has a 1 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
