Organ Mountain NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Hoke County AJROTC
Organ Mountain NJROTC edged out Hoke County AJROTC 1031.4 to 1024.9 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. Organ Mountain NJROTC was led by Carlos Poches who shot a 261.0. The remaining contributing members were Nuvia McDaniel, A Aguirre, and Tran Nguyen. They are from Las Cruces, NM, and are coached by Robert Rodriguez.
Organ Mountain NJROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in thirteenth place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they finish in third place. They finished the regular season with a 5 - 2 record.
The cut scores for next season are still unofficial, however thanks to their performance this season Organ Mountain NJROTC likely qualifies for the Distinguished Division in the 2023 National Air Rifle League Season.
Shooting their highest team score of the season Hoke County AJROTC was led by Savanna Boettge who shot a 266.9. The remaining contributing members were Xavier Scott, Jaiden Johnson, and Calina Calbreath. Hoke County AJROTC is from Raeford, NC, and is coached by Harold Thacker.
Hoke County AJROTC is also competing in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in twenty-fourth place. They finished the regular season with a 4 - 3 record.

Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
