Missouri Military Academy defeats Summerlin Academy AJROTC

Shooting their highest score of the season Missouri Military Academy defeated Summerlin Academy AJROTC 1084.9 to 1012.6 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Missouri Military Academy was led by Blake Morais who shot a 274.0. The remaining contributing members were Zijie Zhou, (Required) Hines, and Xiang Chen. They are from Mexico, MO, and are coached by Joseph Balvanz.

Missouri Military Academy is competing in the Champions Division where they finish the regular season in eighteenth place. Within the Army Jrotc Conference they finish in fifth place. They finished the regular season with a 4 - 3 record.

The cut scores for next season are still unofficial, however thanks to their performance this season Missouri Military Academy preliminarily qualifies for the Champions Division in the 2023 National Air Rifle League Season. To complete their qualification, they must still shoot a 1035 or higher in a sanctioned competition within the next year.

Summerlin Academy AJROTC was led by Keegan Salm who shot a 282.4. The remaining contributing members were Abigail Ramirez-Martinez, Hendrix Adams, and Juan Nino. Summerlin Academy AJROTC is from Bartow, FL, and is coached by Lamonte Munns.

Overall Summerlin Academy AJROTC finishes the regular season thirtieth. They finished the regular season with a 5 - 2 record.

Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.

The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.

The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
