Vilseck AJROTC defeats Guthrie JROTC
Vilseck AJROTC defeated Guthrie JROTC 2137.2 to 1604.5 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Vilseck AJROTC was led by Emily Dahle who shot a 548.8. The remaining contributing members were Leana Mantilla, Ricky Gravely, and Robert Demeo. They are from Vilseck, Germany, and are coached by John Sabala.
Vilseck AJROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in fifth place. Within the Jrotc Conference they finish in third place. They finished the regular season with a 2 - 5 record.
The cut scores are still unofficial, however Vilseck AJROTC likely will qualify for the Distinguished Division in the 2023 National Air Rifle League Season.
Guthrie JROTC was led by Aidin Edmondson who shot a 471.3. The remaining contributing members were Brandon Willis, Ryan Bostick, and Tyler Powell. Guthrie JROTC is from Guthrie, OK, and is coached by Kyle Brede.
Guthrie JROTC is also competing in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in tenth place. Within the Jrotc Conference they finish in seventh place. They finished the regular season with a 2 - 4 record.
The cut scores are still unofficial, however Guthrie JROTC likely will qualify for the Distinguished Division in the 2023 National Air Rifle League Season.
Post-season teams and squadding will be posted to the league website and emailed to coaches shortly.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is nearly identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 60 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 60 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
