Zion Benton NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Bradley Central AJROTC
Zion Benton NJROTC edged out Bradley Central AJROTC 1143.0 to 1124.2 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Zion Benton NJROTC was led by Addyson Gustafson who shot a 286.7. The remaining contributing members were Kalinn White, Santiago Camacho, and Brianna Benedetto. They are from Zion, IL, and are coached by Dan Hackstein.
Zion Benton NJROTC is competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in first place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they are in first place. They have a 6 - 1 record.
Bradley Central AJROTC was led by Calwyn Watson who shot a 287.6. The remaining contributing members were Susie Asble, Pyper Reynolds, and Jason Sealy. Bradley Central AJROTC is from Cleveland, TN, and is coached by Chris Ingle.
Bradley Central AJROTC is also competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in sixth place. They have a 4 - 2 record.
This coming week Zion Benton NJROTC has a bye week. While Bradley Central AJROTC will compete against C. T. Johnson AJROTC from San Antonio, TX. C. T. Johnson AJROTC currently has a 4 - 2 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
