Glynn Academy MCJROTC defeats Shawnee NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Glynn Academy MCJROTC defeated Shawnee NJROTC 870.5 to 737.7 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Glynn Academy MCJROTC was led by DaChawn Bryant who shot a 245.5. The remaining contributing members were Kevin Gooch, Logan Stolinski, and Leydi Ramirez. They are from Brunswick, GA, and are coached by Clint Houchins.
Glynn Academy MCJROTC is competing in the Elite Division where they are currently ranked in twenty-sixth place. Within the Marine Corps Jrotc Conference they are in second place. They have a 1 - 4 record.
Shooting their highest team score of the season Shawnee NJROTC was led by Matthew Robinson who shot a 243.9. The remaining contributing members were Jayden Oneil, Krys Nacionales, and Ved Lekkala. Shawnee NJROTC is from Louisville, KY, and is coached by Ronnie Cox.
Shawnee NJROTC is also competing in the Elite Division where they are currently ranked in twenty-ninth place. They have a 0 - 5 record.
Next up Glynn Academy MCJROTC will compete against East Surry AJROTC from Pilot Mountain, NC. East Surry AJROTC currently has a 3 - 2 record. While Shawnee NJROTC will compete against Guthrie JROTC from Guthrie, OK. Guthrie JROTC currently has a 1 - 3 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
