Bensalem MCJROTC defeats Washburn Rural AFJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Bensalem MCJROTC defeated Washburn Rural AFJROTC 1042.5 to 969.6 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. Bensalem MCJROTC was led by Nicholas Donnelly who shot a 272.9. The remaining contributing members were Michael Sit, Jacob Huttenberger, and Madison Germano. They are from Bensalem, PA, and are coached by MSgt Shawn Worthen.
Bensalem MCJROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in twentieth place. Within the Marine Corps Jrotc Conference they are in fifth place. They have a 3 - 2 record.
Washburn Rural AFJROTC was led by Thomas Diaz who shot a 270.4. The remaining contributing members were Ayla Fields, Mason Padgett, and Savannah Nelson. Washburn Rural AFJROTC is from Topeka, KS, and is coached by Lt Col Ron Daniels.
Washburn Rural AFJROTC is also competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in thirtieth place. They have a 2 - 3 record.
Next up Bensalem MCJROTC will compete against South Brunswick AJROTC from Southport, NC. South Brunswick AJROTC currently has a 2 - 3 record. While Washburn Rural AFJROTC will compete against Ansbach AJROTC from Ansbach, Germany. Ansbach AJROTC currently has a 1 - 5 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
