Northeast MCJROTC defeats American Legion Post 290
Northeast MCJROTC defeated American Legion Post 290 909 to 875 last week in the National Air Rifle League. They currently have a 1 - 4 record. Northeast MCJROTC was led by, Christopher Kroh who shot a 250. The remaining contributing members were Colton Shamer, Justin McCasland, and Clayton Whiting. Northeast MCJROTC is from Pasadena, MD, and is coached by Kevin Jenkins.
American Legion Post 290 currently has a 3 - 1 record. Shooting their highest team score of the season American Legion Post 290 was led by, Sameer Singh who shot a 234. The remaining contributing members were Lillie Miller, Elizabeth Gunn, and Olivia Sharon. American Legion Post 290 is from Stafford, VA, and is coached by Mike Flanagan.
Next up Northeast MCJROTC will compete against Abraham Clark MCJROTC from Roselle, NJ. Abraham Clark MCJROTC currently has a 2 - 3 record. While American Legion Post 290 will compete against Pickaway Diabolos from Circleville, OH. Pickaway Diabolos currently has a 2 - 3 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
