West AJROTC Upsets Grove City NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season West AJROTC upset Grove City NJROTC 957 to 914 last week in the National Air Rifle League. West AJROTC was able to win despite averaging 13 points lower than Grove City NJROTC coming into this game.
They currently have a 3 - 2 record. West AJROTC was led by, Ignacio Serrano who shot a 250. The remaining contributing members were Aracely Marquez, Austin Rutherford, and Juan Flores. West AJROTC is from Denver, CO, and is coached by Jeffrey Wilson.
Grove City NJROTC currently has a 3 - 2 record. After the loss they are in tenth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Grove City NJROTC was led by, Anthony Tussing who shot a 233. The remaining contributing members were Kylie Marvin, Ashton Writsel, and Mallory June. Grove City NJROTC is from Grove City, OH, and is coached by CDR Dustin Martin.
Next up West AJROTC will compete against Southern Indiana Sharpshooters from Jasper, IN. Southern Indiana Sharpshooters currently has a 3 - 2 record. While Grove City NJROTC will compete against Kelly Walsh MCJROTC from Casper, WY. Kelly Walsh MCJROTC currently has a 3 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
