West Broward AJROTC defeats Warrenton Rifles
West Broward AJROTC defeated Warrenton Rifles 1052 to 1030 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their sixth win in a row. With the win, West Broward AJROTC is in first place overall and first place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 6 - 0 record. West Broward AJROTC was led by, Andrea Aylwin who shot a 266. The remaining contributing members were Edward Gispert, Justin Barnes, and Nistula Seshadri. West Broward AJROTC is from Pembroke Pines, FL, and is coached by Kenneth Merkel.
Snapping a four game win streak Warrenton Rifles currently has a 4 - 1 record. After the loss they are in fourth place overall and first place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Warrenton Rifles was led by, Seth Carver who shot a 266. The remaining contributing members were Jacob Schoonenberg, Alexis Jerde, and Ryan Roeber. Warrenton Rifles is from Warrenton, VA, and is coached by Claude Davenport.
This coming week West Broward AJROTC has a bye week. While Warrenton Rifles will compete against Smith Station MCJROTC from Smith Station, AL. Smith Station MCJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
