Lake Region Shooting Sports defeats New Caney AJROTC
Lake Region Shooting Sports defeated New Caney AJROTC 1019 to 966 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fourth win in a row. With the win, Lake Region Shooting Sports is in third place overall and first place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They currently have a 4 - 0 record. Lake Region Shooting Sports was led by, Jacob Vaagen who shot a 274. The remaining contributing members were Cassandra Christensen, Hannah Vaagen, and Casia Steinhaus. Lake Region Shooting Sports is from Devils Lake, ND, and is coached by Rick Jorgenson.
New Caney AJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record. After the loss they are in fourteenth place overall and fifth place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. New Caney AJROTC was led by, Tristen Ivy who shot a 245. The remaining contributing members were Abigail Jaimes-Alvarado, Kade Rawlins, and Wilber Morales-Lumbreras(required). New Caney AJROTC is from New Caney, TX, and is coached by MSG(R) Joseph R. Lang.
This coming week Lake Region Shooting Sports has a bye week. While New Caney AJROTC will compete against Warrenton Rifles from Warrenton, VA. Warrenton Rifles currently has a 3 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
