Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC Defeats on a Tie Breaker Northeast MCJROTC
Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC edged out Northeast MCJROTC last week in the National Air Rifle League. Both teams scored 912 points. By rule, the tie was settled by highest number of "inner tens." Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC won the tie 11 to 9. With the win, Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC is in eighth place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 1 - 1 record. Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC was led by, Alexis Chavez who shot a 245. The remaining contributing members were Nolan Smith, Malachi Jaramillo, and Joshalyn Catron. Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC is from Albuquerque, NM, and is coached by GySgt Tim Shaner.
Northeast MCJROTC currently has a 0 - 3 record. After the loss they are in tenth place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. Northeast MCJROTC was led by, Colton Shamer who shot a 260. The remaining contributing members were Christopher Kroh, Justin McCasland, and Clayton Whiting. Northeast MCJROTC is from Pasadena, MD, and is coached by Kevin Jenkins.
Next up Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC will compete against Loveland AJROTC from Loveland, CO. Loveland AJROTC currently has a 1 - 1 record. While Northeast MCJROTC has a bye week.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
