Pueblo West AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Joliet West AJROTC
Pueblo West AJROTC edged out Joliet West AJROTC 996 to 983 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Pueblo West AJROTC is in ninth place overall and fourth place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 2 - 1 record. Pueblo West AJROTC was led by, Alex Racine who shot a 263. The remaining contributing members were Hailey Ure, Kailey Arrigo, and Tyana Sanchez. Pueblo West AJROTC is from Pueblo West, CO, and is coached by Matthew Dilcher.
Joliet West AJROTC currently has a 1 - 2 record. After the loss they are in ninth place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Joliet West AJROTC was led by, Samuel Servande who shot a 254. The remaining contributing members were Naomi Jimenez, Gabriela Principe, and Angel Patino. Joliet West AJROTC is from Joliet, IL, and is coached by Benjamin White.
This coming week Pueblo West AJROTC has a bye week. While Joliet West AJROTC will compete against Warrenton Rifles from Warrenton, VA. Warrenton Rifles currently has a 2 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
