Lebanon AJROTC Defeats on a Tie Breaker Saint Thomas Academy
In one of the closes games in league history, Lebanon AJROTC squeaked by Saint Thomas Academy in their first round game of the the National Air Rifle League championship tournament. Both teams scored 2183 points. By rule, the tie was settled by highest number of "inner tens." Lebanon AJROTC won the tie 70 to 68. With the win Lebanon will advance to the semi-finals to take on seventh ranked Nation Ford MCJROTC.
Lebanon AJROTC improves their overall record to 8 - 0. In their first round game Lebanon AJROTC was led by, Katerina Slingluff who shot a 552. The remaining contributing members were Logan Hibbert, Hailey Clevenger, Jake Slingluff, and Jonathan Smith. Lebanon AJROTC is from Lebanon, OR, and is coached by Mark Smith.
Saint Thomas Academy finished the season with a 5 - 3 record overall record, which includes the Junior Rifle Club conference title. In their first round game Saint Thomas Academy was led by, Michael Driscoll who shot a 550. The remaining contributing members were Daniel Staelgraeve, Kaleb Rutgers, and John Copeland. Saint Thomas Academy is from Mendota Heights, MN, and is coached by Paul Preblich.
In a historical note, this was the second closest game in league history. The separation between these two teams was only two inner tens. The closest game in league history was the 2016 league championship title game. In that game Gulfport MCJROTC edged out Zion Benton NJROTC by just one inner ten.
