United South MCJROTC Narrowly Defeats McDowell NJROTC
United South MCJROTC edged out McDowell NJROTC 1051 to 1031 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fourth win in a row. United South MCJROTC finishes the regular season in third place overall and first place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 6 - 1 record. United South MCJROTC was led by, Claire Lopez who shot a 267. The remaining contributing members were Simon Espino, Matthew Altman, and Diego Hernandez. United South MCJROTC is from Laredo, TX, and is coached by James Jordan.
McDowell NJROTC finished the regular season with a 4 - 3 record. They finishes the season in eleventh place overall and second place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season McDowell NJROTC was led by, Reagan Harris who shot a 265. The remaining contributing members were Andrew Rouse, Austin Smith, and Owen Cook. McDowell NJROTC is from marion, NC, and is coached by Steven H Ross.
United South MCJROTC will advance to the postseason to compete in the Marine Corps JROTC Title game. They will compete against Northeast MCJROTC who has a 6 - 1 record.
McDowell NJROTC will advance to the postseason to compete in the Navy JROTC Title game. They will compete against Norview NJROTC who has a 6 - 1 record. The postseason games are scheduled for 26 November to 2 December 2018.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
