Onate NJROTC Upsets A. C. Mosley MCJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Onate NJROTC upset A. C. Mosley MCJROTC 981 to 917 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Onate NJROTC was able to win despite averaging 16 points lower than A. C. Mosley MCJROTC coming into this game.
Onate NJROTC finishes the season in tenth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 3 - 4 record. Onate NJROTC was led by, Rocio Valadez who shot a 259. The remaining contributing members were Crystal Parra, Sky Cao, and Levi Richins. Onate NJROTC is from Las Cruces, NM, and is coached by Robert Rodriguez.

Mosley MCJROTC is from Lynn Haven, FL, and is coached by Ken Hicks.
Next up Onate NJROTC will compete against St Stephens NJROTC from Hickory, NC. St Stephens NJROTC currently has a 4 - 2 record. While A. C. Mosley MCJROTC will compete against Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC from Albuquerque, NM. Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC currently has a 4 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
