North Mesquite AJROTC defeats McDowell NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season North Mesquite AJROTC defeated McDowell NJROTC 1037 to 1003 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fourth win in a row. With the win, North Mesquite AJROTC is in second place overall and second place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 4 - 0 record. North Mesquite AJROTC was led by Bradley Srader who shot a 271. The remaining contributing members were Jorge Perez, Nathalie Rios, and Matthew Wallace. North Mesquite AJROTC is from Mesquite, TX, and is coached by Eric Schmidt.
Snapping a thre game win streak McDowell NJROTC currently has a 3 - 1 record. After the loss they are in eighth place overall and second place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. McDowell NJROTC was led by Andrew Rouse who shot a 267. The remaining contributing members were Owen Cook, Trinity Parker, and Hunter Clark. McDowell NJROTC is from marion, NC, and is coached by Steven H Ross.
Next up North Mesquite AJROTC will compete against St Pauls AJROTC from St Pauls, NC. St Pauls AJROTC currently has a 3 - 0 record. While McDowell NJROTC will compete against Northeast MCJROTC from Pasadena, MD. Northeast MCJROTC currently has a 4 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
