Marion AJROTC Upsets Henderson County AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Marion AJROTC upset Henderson County AJROTC 1343 to 1293 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Marion AJROTC was able to win despite averaging 13 points lower than Henderson County AJROTC coming into this game.
Their fourth win in a row. Marion AJROTC finishes the season in ninth place overall and sixth place within their 'Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 4 - 0 record. Marion AJROTC was led by Hailey Teeguarden who shot a 361. The remaining contributing members were Levi Hofmann, Josiah Hamilton, and Abigail Baird. Marion AJROTC is from Marion, IN, and is coached by David Farlow.
Henderson County AJROTC finished the season with a 0 - 3 record. They finishes the season in tenth place overall and seventh place within their 'Jrotc' conference. Henderson County AJROTC was led by Emma Olson who shot a 339. The remaining contributing members were Justin Morgan, Zachariah Stokes, and Briana Duncan. Henderson County AJROTC is from Henderson, KY, and is coached by Rosentreter Victor.
This coming week Marion AJROTC has a bye week. While Henderson County AJROTC will compete against St. John's College AJROTC from Washington, DC. St. John's College AJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Precision Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now. Followed by a single game conference title game for the top two teams in the JROTC and Junior Rifle Club divisions.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
