Pebble Hills NJROTC defeats Wando AFJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Pebble Hills NJROTC defeated Wando AFJROTC 970 to 637 last week in the National Air Rifle League. They currently have a 1 - 2 record. Pebble Hills NJROTC was led by Alejandro Tizcareno who shot a 253. The remaining contributing members were Aliah Garcia, Shazaray Labaya, and Mateo Contreras. Pebble Hills NJROTC is from El Paso, TX, and is coached by Anthony J. Arellano.
Wando AFJROTC currently has a 0 - 2 record. After the loss they are in tenth place within their 'Air Force Jrotc' conference. Wando AFJROTC was led by Nathan Wilson who shot a 203. The remaining contributing members were Dennis Powell, Madilyn Heater, and Justin Silva. Wando AFJROTC is from Mount Pleasant, SC, and is coached by Michael J. Gardner.
Next up Pebble Hills NJROTC will compete against Joliet West AJROTC from Joliet, IL. Joliet West AJROTC currently has a 3 - 0 record. While Wando AFJROTC will compete against Hirschi AJROTC from Wichita Falls, TX. Hirschi AJROTC currently has a 2 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
