C. T. Johnson AJROTC defeats Pickaway Diabolos
Shooting their highest score of the season C. T. Johnson AJROTC defeated Pickaway Diabolos 1012 to 964 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. With the win, C. T. Johnson AJROTC is in eighth place overall and fourth place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 3 - 0 record. C. T. Johnson AJROTC was led by Ian Zinsmeister who shot a 265. The remaining contributing members were Jacob Saldaña, Emanuel Vazquez, and Paul Mankewitz. C. T. Johnson AJROTC is from San Antonio, TX, and is coached by MAJ Tom Groggett.
Snapping a two game win streak Pickaway Diabolos currently has a 2 - 1 record. After the loss they are in third place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Pickaway Diabolos was led by Grace Marcum who shot a 270. The remaining contributing members were Mallory Hite, Bryson Dudgeon, and Brady Tschiggfrie. Pickaway Diabolos is from Circleville, OH, and is coached by Patrick Cherry.
Next up C. T. Johnson AJROTC will compete against Joliet Central AJROTC from Joliet, IL. Joliet Central AJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record. While Pickaway Diabolos will compete against Tempe Union AJROTC from Tempe, AZ. Tempe Union AJROTC currently has a 2 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
