Lake Houston 4-H defeats Harold L. Richards NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Lake Houston 4-H defeated Harold L. Richards NJROTC 932 to 776 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. With the win, Lake Houston 4-H is in fourth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They currently have a 2 - 0 record. Lake Houston 4-H was led by Kayla Ressler who shot a 260. The remaining contributing members were Carissa Wallace, Abigail Weed, and Alyssa Ward. Lake Houston 4-H is from Kingwood, TX, and is coached by Steven Schammel.
Harold L. Richards NJROTC currently has a 1 - 1 record. Harold L. Richards NJROTC was led by Claire Kuypers who shot a 211. The remaining contributing members were Kathy Magana, Charles Pedraza, and Jafar Abushanab. Harold L. Richards NJROTC is from Oak Lawn, IL, and is coached by Douglas Groters.
Next up Lake Houston 4-H will compete against Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club from San Jose, CA. Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club currently has a 0 - 2 record. While Harold L. Richards NJROTC will compete against Western Alamance NJROTC from Elon, NC. Western Alamance NJROTC currently has a 1 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
