Lebanon AJROTC Wins the National Air Rifle League

Lebanon AJROTC has won the National Air Rifle League. In the championship game last week Lebanon outshot Ozark AJROTC 1101 to 1092. This is Lebanon's first league championship.

To make it to the league championship Lebanon had to survive a very difficult regular season. Seeded in the prestigious Army JROTC Champions division they out lasted a talented field, including Pueblo County, Ozark, and South Brunswick. Winning the Champions Division they were given one of the automatic spots in the post-season tournament, and a number two seed.

In the first round of the tournament Lebanon outshot the Air Force JROTC Champions Division winner, South Panola AFJROTC. In the semi finals they edged out two time defending league champion, Gulfport MCJROTC, snapping their 30 game win streak. In the championship game they faced their Army JROTC rival Ozark AJROTC.

In the championship game Lebanon AJROTC was led by Logan Hibbert who shot a 280. The remaining contributing members were Destry Brooks, Hailey Clevenger, Jake Slingluff, and Amber Witherell. Lebanon AJROTC is from Lebanon, OR, and is coached by Mark Smith.

The Most Valuable Player award goes to Logan Hibbert. He lead his team in the championship game by shooting an impressive 280. In the semi-final and quarter final games he shot a 274 and 272 respectively.

Ozark AJROTC finishes their 2017 season with an impressive 7 - 3 record, which included a third place finish in the Army JROTC Champions Division during the regular season. In the championship game Ozark AJROTC was led by Elizabeth Vigneaux who shot a 279. The remaining contributing members were Nathan Obert, Lauren Frealy, Britni Campbell, and Jacob McTeer. Ozark AJROTC is from Ozark, MO, and is coached by 1SG William Crawford .

The post-season Championship Tournament is for the top eight teams in the National Air Rifle Sporter League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season that concluded in November. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, going on now, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
